Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has stressed that Iran will never forget the US’s downing of the Iran Air Flight 655.

Zarif made the remark on his official twitter account on Monday, which marks the 29th anniversary of the downing of an Iranian Airbus A300B2 passenger plane by a US Navy guided-missile cruiser in the Persian Gulf waters in 1988.

“July 3, 1988, US ship shot down #IR655, killing 290 civilians. Ship capt. was awarded medal for murdering innocents. Iranians won’t forget,” he tweeted.

Despite being equipped with highly sophisticated radar systems, the USS Vincennes claimed that it had mistaken Iran Air Flight 655 for a warplane.

A year later, the captain of the USS Vincennes, William C. Rogers, was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident, and was even awarded America’s Legion of Merit medal by then President George Bush for his “outstanding service.”

Earlier in the day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement to commemorate the victims and once again censure the US Navy’s “horrific crime.”

“A look at the precedence of the US inhumane behavior, which is manifested in massacring innocent people across the world, including the aggrieved people of Iran, indicates that such an attitude has been institutionalized in various US governments in pursuit of their own goals,” said the statement.

This is very high criminal terrorist by USA and against the international flight safety aviation law. And this suit can open in international court and united nations and USA should compensate the money to iranian families.

The difference in size of airbus A300 and a F14 is comparable to a elephant standing next to a mouse. Radar signals bouncing back plot a very good indication of the size of the flying object. Just like the use of 2 nuclear bombs in Japan to end the war. The USA used samilar tactic to scare Iran to come to the negotiation to end iraq war, once they new their man was losing badly.

May alha have mercy on the soles of these myrters and may alha punish the perpetrators of this huge crime. This was never an accident and the facts prove it, yet nobody has said a word to this day. The ones that have kept silent, their turn is coming soon, this evil force does not believe in friends or alliance s only ME.

Certain things can never get washed and cleaned. And, this was a deliberate mass murdering of absolutely innocent travelers, an organized crime in clear daylight.

The US are and behave like outlaws everywhere on the globe. On certain day they will face the judgment and pay the price for their crimes.

BBC were on board Vincennes filming (can be viewed on you-tube) when the attack on Iran 655 was made. Footage of Capt Rogers on the Quayside on return to the US laughing , waving and saluting to cheering crowds, like some returning hero. Shoot-down WAS DELIBERATE.

To make such mistakes when you’re not even at war is hardly forgivable. The US continues to look blindly at Iran mistaking its peaceful nuclear program with a global threat, only because their idol artist, Netenyahu, made a presentation about Iran’s nuclear program in the UN, and use a 1907 bomb drawing to illustrate a scary nuclear weapon, expecting the world to fear it. LOL.

Remember US forcibly took billions of dollars from LIBYA when their passenger plane was bombed, likewise US should compensate billions of dollars to Iran for their terrorist act.

Just compare two shooting down of civilian airplanes. The South Korean plane flew off course and was flying over Sakhalin islands in the Kamchatka Peninsula which is a sensitive defense area for the Soviets. The Soviets shot down the plane in a purely defense move. The whole world erupted in anger and boycotted the Moscow Olympics. US and all its criminal allies raised hue and cry and blew up the incident. Now coming to the shooting down of the Iranian Civilian plane, this plane was flying within its route and did not deviate from its course. The US ship which was near the Iranian coast shot down the plane and gave the lame excuse that they mistook it for a warplane. And there was no outrage from the countries which were hyperactive when the Soviets downed the SK plane.

Iranian lost the 5th Ave building to USA, why not sue America for downing of the flight 655? What was that? Oh, USA has no assets in Iran so you can not seize it…. Do not invest in Western countries…Buy gold and Rare earth metals and store it in your own country….OK?
Toshiro chiniquygestern um 01:00
The majority of Americans don’t even know about this terrible injustice; inflicted upon the Iranian nation.

Iran should confiscate US property in Iran and any assets and through the courts award it to those killed ….if there is a short fall apply to international courts to freeze and forward US assets to Iran ….Remember to award 3 million dollars per passenger and 100 million plus for the destruction of Iran air too as compensation with interest added since this terrorist act took place ….Remember also to issue an arrest warrant for the ships captain and crew of the US Nazis who committed this act knowingly that it was a civilian plane and in Iranian airspace too….
Megan> Crissgestern um 01:35
You mean the US never compensated Iran and those who lost their lives in this strike on a passenger airliner?

Persian Gulf 1988: United States shots down the Iranian civilian Airbus: Killed 290

A documentary film about the 1988 tragedy over the Persian Gulf. On 3 July 1988, at the end of the Iran-Iraq War, Iran Air Flight 655 was flying from Tehran to Dubai; the aircraft was shot down by United States missiles fired by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes as it flew over the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft, which had been flying in Persian airspace over Persia’s territorial waters on its usual flight path, was destroyed. All 290 on board, including 66 children and 16 crew, perished. Ranking seventh among the deadliest disasters in aviation history, the incident retains the highest death toll of any aviation incident in the Indian Ocean and the highest death toll of any incident involving an Airbus A300 anywhere in the world.
